This all-time best seller is the throwing body of choice for tableware makers. Great for beginners and professionals it is smooth and plastic.
PW20 has a wide firing range from 1160 - 1260. It fires very white for a general-purpose clay and generally contributes to well-fitting glazes, especially Abbots Clear between 1160C and 1200C. Some faint speckling is sometimes seen.
PW20 has exceptional throwing qualities and is easy to trim. It has low drying shrinkage and accepts attachments well.
PW20 has been found to be a good hand-building clay.
The wet to fired shrinkage (1200C) is approx 16%
Water absorption at 1160C 4%. At 1200C 2%
Some of the best ball clays we have access to are black in their raw state. Even the tiniest particles that pass through our fine screens can be visible in the cut block of clay. These ball clay particles fire white and are not evident in fired pottery.
The 45cm jar (third image) is made from PW20. It is finished with Bruce’s own glaze and reduction lustres.

Great clay to throw with - love my new dish made with PW20 and glazed with Abbots White
Great clay to handbuild with. Love it
It's a nice, white clay for throwing small to medium pieces and is a good surface for my glazes. However, it doesn't have the strength and elasticity I need for larger work.
I love the beautiful crisp white of PW20, and it is a fantastic clay to work with.
Beautiful performance of this clay. Nice good white colour, excellent for handbuilding, extruding and throwing. If ever I want a clean clay, its my go to.

This clay trims and burnishes beautifully, but I didn't love throwing with it. It was really firm and dry on opening the bag - I wonder if it would be better supplied as a wetter clay? Might just be my personal preference though :)
Good strong working clay
I absolutely love using PW20, my most favourite clay ever. I love how easy it is to use, and the beautiful crisp white it fires to is perfect for my work.
Love the 20% porcelain content in this clay, the smooth throwing feel and the finished white surface for glazing.

I’ve been getting all my clay supplies here every year and it’s always been great.
The service from you guys is bloody amazing . To be honest, I'm just doing little crafty things with 11 year olds, . When I have time, I play with my cheap little pottery wheel, im really bad at it, but it gives me peace.

I’m a beginner potter and find this clay very easy to use.
I would really like white raku but production white is the next best thing when I add some grog. Sometimes p/white feels a bit rubbery is it too much deflocculant? But I must add your service and prompt delivery is amazing. Thank you.

The clay is great, nice to throw and a good fit with my glazes, but the delivery time was very much substandard and disappointing. I ordered the clay on the morning of Tuesday 4 February but it wasn't delivered until Monday 10 February. I already contacted you about this and you were going to talk to the courier company. Did you do this? What response did you get?

I particularly like the nice white finish after bisque firing. I paint with under glaze and this finish is great.

I've used PW20 doing pottery workshops with the public at the Christchurch Horticultural Society at the Botanic Gardens. The clay fires to a beautiful creamy white and was very successful using watered down claybright underglaze over detailed leaf printed textures. They were delighted with the outcome!
